Keeping the Northville-Placid Trail in good and safe condition takes a lot of effort by a lot of people. Reporting on where the problem areas are starts with you, the Northville Placid Trail Hiker. Without your input and an organized method to compile your reports and act on them, the NPT would fall into disrepair very quickly. Mother Nature tries Her best to hide the trail underneath mud, downed trees and brush. Beavers try their best to bury the trail under water. We need your timely input in order to properly maintain the NPT.
The Process:
Your "NPT Trail Condition Reports" will be promptly reviewed by members of the NPTrail Chapter of ADK, compared with current known trail conditions and used to timely update the "Latest Trail Conditions" page to help future hikers assess the conditions on the trail before their hike. Northville-Placid Trail conditions will be assessed and prioritized. Action plans will be formulated and carried out including finding the funding source(s) needed, as applicable, and using volunteer help or professional trail crew involvement, as applicable. Note that it all starts with you and your timely letting us know what adverse trail conditions you encountered on the NPT.
What We Are Looking For:
We are most concerned with areas on the trail where a bridge is out or where there is excessive muddy conditions or where the trail is under water and/or impassable due to blow-downs (trees that have fallen across the trail), overgrown brush that is making the trail hard to follow, or beaver activity. We aren't trying to make the trail a "walk in the park", but we can continue to monitor and improve the trail to provide a safe and enjoyable hiking, snowshoeing or skiing destination with your help.
Report Trail Conditions Form:
Below is a "Report Trail Conditions" Form for your use in reporting conditions you found on the Northville Placid Trail during your hike. Please follow the directions noted in the form. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.
